Most Divemaster candidates are competent divers who have never been taught to be responsible for someone else in the water. That is a different skill entirely, and it is the one that decides whether a dive you lead goes well or goes wrong.
I have been diving since 1991, served as a Navy hospital corpsman, hold a Ph.D., and have taught for more than twenty years. As an IDEA Course Director I train and certify instructors and instructor trainers, so your Divemaster training comes from someone whose daily work is
developing, assessing, and correcting professionals.

What Do I Need Before Starting?
The standard requirements are 18 years of age, at least 20 logged dives, and Rescue Diver certification completed before you finish. Missing pieces can be built into your program.
Can I Actually Earn a Living From This?
Divemaster is a first professional rating, not a full career on its own. Most people who make a living do so at instructor level, which is the honest answer nobody leads with.
How Long Does the Program Take?
It depends on your availability and experience, not on a fixed calendar. Candidates who can train consistently move quickly, and nobody is held back by a class schedule.
What Does Divemaster Cost?
