Most courses are built to the minimum standard, because the minimum is what gets a class through in a weekend. You are left with permission to dive and not much practice at it.

I have watched people finish a course and still hold their breath on the descent, still fumble the inflator, still count on someone else to fix a problem. That is not a failure of the student. It is what happens when a course is treated as a deadline instead of a skill.
I have been diving since 1991, served as a Navy hospital corpsman, hold a Ph.D., and spent more than twenty years teaching. I am an IDEA Course Director, the highest rank in recreational scuba. I teach one student or one family at a time, in the springs, until the skills are
automatic, repeatable, and yours.

Private Instruction
Anyone can put six students in a pool and watch. Teaching one person until the skill is automatic takes time, and that is the part most courses skip.

Your first dives happen somewhere worth remembering. Devil's Den, Blue Grotto, Ginnie Springs, Rainbow River, and six more North Florida springs, all 72 degrees and clear year-round.

Is This a Recognized Certification?
Yes. Your certification issues through an internationally recognized training agency and is accepted by dive operators worldwide. Agencies differ in cost and structure, not in whether the world honors the certification you earn.
How Long Does Certification Take?
That depends on you rather than a fixed calendar. Academics can start immediately, and water sessions are scheduled around your availability. Most students finish inside a few weeks, and nobody is pushed through on a deadline.
What Does It Cost?
Cost depends on the course level, whether you train alone or as a family or group, and whether you rent or buy equipment. Call and I'll give you a clear number, not a range.
Do I Need to Be a Strong Swimmer?
You need to be comfortable in water and able to pass a basic swimming and water skills test. You do not need to be fast or athletic. Comfort matters far more than speed or conditioning.
Why Not Just Take the Cheapest Weekend Course?
You can, and the card will look the same. The difference shows up on your first unsupervised dive, when the skills either come automatically or you find out they never did.
