You Keep Ending Dives Because of the Table, Not the Tank

You surface with air left and the computer telling you it is time to go up. On a two-tank day the surface interval eats the morning, and the second dive gets cut short anyway.

Everyone tells you nitrox fixes this. Nobody has explained partial pressures, oxygen exposure, or what happens if you dive a mix deeper than it should go.

Enriched air should feel
understood, verified, and routine, not like a setting you trust because the shop said so.

I'm Wade Howell, and I'm Here to Make the Gas Make Sense

The nitrox course has a reputation for being a formality: watch a video, take a quiz, get a sticker. That reputation exists because a lot of divers finish it able to recite a number without being able to explain what the number is protecting them from.

I have been diving since 1991, served as a Navy hospital corpsman, hold a Ph.D., and have spent more than twenty years teaching. I hold the specialty and I teach the physics behind it, not around it. You will leave able to analyze, label, and plan a mix that is
correct, verified, and yours.

You dive the gas. Understand the gas.

A Specialty That Changes Every Dive After It

Open Water Diver course

More Time on the Bottom

Reduced nitrogen loading on the same profile so you can stay down longer on the dives you already do, which means one certification improves every dive you make afterward.

Safe Scuba Diver Program - four divers in formation

Shorter Waits Topside

Faster off-gassing between dives so you can shorten surface intervals on multi-dive days, which means a two-tank day stops feeling like one dive and a long lunch.

Confidence in Your Own Mix

Analyzing and labeling your own cylinder so you can verify the gas rather than assume it, which means you never breathe something nobody actually checked.

How It Works

Cover the Theory

We work through oxygen exposure, partial pressures, and maximum operating depth so you can plan a mix rather than accept one.

Analyze a Real Cylinder

You use an analyzer on an actual fill and log the result so you can do it unsupervised the next day.

Dive the Mix

Optional dives on enriched air let you set the computer and run the plan so you can see the difference on your own gauge.

What Makes This Nitrox Course Worth Taking

A teacher first

Physics Explained

Most nitrox courses hand you a formula. This one explains where the formula comes from, which is the difference between memorizing and knowing.

Navy trained

Hands-On Analysis

You will handle the analyzer yourself, on a real fill, until reading and logging a mix takes under a minute and produces a number you would stake a dive on.

Maximum Operating Depth

Every mix has a floor you do not go below. Working out that depth for yourself, before the dive, is the single safety habit this certification exists to build.

Computer Setup

Setting a dive computer for enriched air: done wrong, the gas gives you no benefit and a false sense of margin.

Navy trained

No Prerequisite Depth Rating

Open Water divers can take this now. There is no reason to wait, because the advantage applies to the exact dives you are already doing.

Pairs With Advanced Training

Add it alongside Advanced Open Water and the depth rating and the extended bottom time arrive together, so one block of training changes two limits.

Fill Station Reality

Not every fill is what the label claims. You learn what to do when the analyzer disagrees with the sticker, so a bad fill becomes a rejected tank rather than an incident.

Navy trained

Taught by a Course Director

Your instructor trains instructors and holds the highest rank in recreational scuba. The specialty is taught to the standard someone teaching it would be held to.

The top of the profession

Included in the Flagship Program

Enriched air is built into the Safe Scuba Diver Program rather than sold as an upsell, because a capable diver should already have it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Decision-blocking questions answered directly.

Is Nitrox Actually Safer?

It reduces nitrogen loading, which lowers decompression stress on a given profile. It also introduces an oxygen limit that air does not have. Safer depends entirely on whether you were trained properly.
